Stuttgart – The new smart fortwo will celebrate its US premiere at next month’s North American International Auto Show, to be held in Detroit (January 7 to 21, 2007).

The all-new smart fortwo will be available for sale in the USA from the first quarter of 2008. The car to be shown at the Detroit show is a European version of the new smart fortwo.

Model lines to be available for Sale in the United States will be announced at a later date.

Finding the smart exhibition stand at next month’s Detroit show will be a simple task. Written in large letters on the stand are the words “Coming to the USA in 2008”. And directly in front of it: a smart fortwo with red bodypanels and a silver tridion safety cell.

Designed to meet US customer needs and registration standards, the all-new fortwo will offer even greater comfort, agility, safety and environmental friendliness than its predecessor. This means US customers will get to experience the iconic two-seater at a new level.

Since its inception, more than 770,000 customers have chosen the first generation of the smart fortwo often to replace a larger car with the lively two-seater. Customer feedback from around the world has revealed numerous buying motives for the famous fortwo, with many drawn to its unique blend of safety, economy, practicality and style.

The Smart will be distributed by UnitedAuto Group, Inc., based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. United Auto group operates 319 dealers with 41 different brands across the US.
